Manager Bruce Bochy said that Nori Aoki will miss at least two weeks with a fractured right fibula that was suffered in the first inning of last Saturday’s game when he was hit by a pitch. The team placed Aoki on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday.
To fill the roster spot, the Giants have called up 2014 post-season hero Travis Ishikawa from Triple-A Sacramento. Ishi waa hitting .266 in 37 minor league games this year, most of them at first base.
Boch had penciled Aoki into the starting lineup for last night’s game, but had to scratch him after he felt discomfort during batting practice. “It was the type of pain I knew I couldn’t play with,” Aoki said through an interpreter.
With Hunter Pence on the DL already, still recovering from wrist tendinitis, look for Justin Maxwell and Gregor Blanco to get the majority of the starts flanking Angel Pagan, over the next couple of weeks. Perhaps Ishi and Belt will share time between left field and first base.
Stay tuned for additional updates.
Ryan Vogelsong (5-5, 4.38) opposes Ian Kennedy (4-5, 5.48) tonight at AT&T Park as the G-men look to even up the series 1-1.
terrible news. do you know if Lincecum “protected” him the next day?

Don’t think so, Timmy had enough trouble as he faced just 12 batters Sunday (retiring only four) before getting the hook.

Funny how a Dodger pitcher takes out one of our players every season now. Just coincidence I guess. Last season it was Belt, this season Aoki. Sure hope Vogey can win for us tonight. Need to get the bats going in the first inning!

With Vogey’s win (fueled by Buster’s Slammo!) tonight, I have BEGUN to recover from the double-whammy of the deeply draining extra-innings loss* I experienced at AT&T (even after Bum’s personal best 14K!), coupled w/ waking up this morning to learn of Aoki’s injury (but they had assured us the Xrays were negative! Wah???). I love this game, this team, but as we learned in 2010: “Giants Baseball: TORTURE!”
* I got back home to my burg of Sacro-tomato almost 3 in the morning. }-p
